Cosmic Noon: The Peak of Star Formation
On the timeline · around ~10 billion years ago · The Age of Galaxies
What happened
A few billion years after the Big Bang, the universe formed stars faster than at any time before or since. Galaxies blazed with newborn stars at rates far higher than in the Milky Way today.
Why it matters
About half of all the stars that have ever existed were born during this brief, brilliant epoch — known as 'cosmic noon.'
