The single-player DLC that never came
Story expansions were normal for Rockstar. Then GTA Online happened.
Quick facts
- On the record
- Imran Sarwar, Rockstar, 2017
- The three reasons
- A complete campaign, GTA Online, Red Dead Redemption 2
What happened
GTA IV got two full story expansions, and story DLC for V was long treated as inevitable. It never shipped. In 2017, Rockstar's Imran Sarwar told Game Informer why: the studio saw the campaign as complete, GTA Online's growth consumed the teams, and Red Dead Redemption 2 needed everyone. Kotaku's coverage of that interview marked the moment the wait officially ended.
Why it matters
For mystery hunters this is the quiet answer to a lot of loose threads: content the map seemed to promise was orphaned when the studio's center of gravity moved online.
How we know
Kotaku's 2017 report carries Sarwar's on-the-record explanation from the Game Informer interview. Claims about what specific cut DLC contained circulate from leaks and are not asserted here.
